Celebrating Success

This May, Yari will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Peace & Conflict Studies and a concentration in Conflict Mediation from the University of California, Berkeley. She will graduate with honors and as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honors society.

For those of you who are making the journey to the commencement on May 14th and 15th, you do not need to worry about purchasing tickets, we will purchase them in advance. Unfortunately, there are limitations to the number of family & friends who can attend for each graduate. Additional information can be found here:

If possible, please give gifts in monetary form to be used towards the purchase of specific graduation materials. To simplify this process, you can click the Donate button on the right side of this page.

Donations will be used to purchase the following graduation materials:
  • Cap, gown, tassel, stole, & cords ($120)
  • Charm bracelet charms to commemorate accomplishments ($200). I have a charm bracelet with several charms symbolic of my accomplishments. I wear it for special occasions, interviews, and graduation. I would like to add a few charms to update my bracelet before graduation.
  • Custom diploma frame to hold diploma, stole, cords & tassel ($200)
  • Lifetime membership to Cal Alumni Association ($450: Recent graduate discount, normally $700). This includes: Access to all UC libraries, journals & research materials (best libraries in the country), Career resources: networking, employer events, Discounts on Kaplan graduate school preparation courses, Discounts on health insurance, Other Benefits.

Summary of Accomplishments

Yari will have a certificate in multi-cultural mediation, a certificate in conflict resolution, and her research paper on Children's Rights in Education in the United States will be published in the upcoming publication of the Berkeley Human Rights Review (peer reviewed journal). She has developed skills in mediation, circle process, facilitating dialogue, grant writing, project management, youth development, and qualitative/ethnographic research.

She volunteered as a College & Career Counselor with AmeriCorps, a conversational English tutor with Literacy Austin, a volunteer with Blue Santa, Out of the Darkness, and various activities with Phi Theta Kappa. She also had the opportunity to work with the American Friends Service Committee as an extern, and intern with Judith Zaffirini at the Texas state capitol. Currently, she is a volunteer with SEEDS Community Resolution Center as a grant writer and circle keeper.

At her community college, she participated in the student government as a Campus Senator, then Senate Chair and Elections Commissioner. She has participated in various personal and leadership development activities including the ASGA Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
